5-18 June 2008, Melbourne – Australia: Studor Australia has made the most of its participation in Designbuild 2008, taking place from 15 to 18 June at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Once more Studor has taken advantage of exhibiting in the largest building show in Australia. Many interested visitors were received in our stand willing to know more about the advantages of the Studor System and the installation and performance of our products.
The interaction and exchange of viewpoints extended also to other activities organized by the company, such as the inaugural dinner hosted by Studor; where visiting customers, colleagues and associates visiting from around the nation were invited.
The location of the tradeshow also offered the opportunity to schedule a visit to the largest Studor site currently under construction in Australia. Next to the exhibition centre is Vue Grande, a 38-storey apartment block where, once completed, an estimated 122 P.A.P.A.s, 32 Maxi-Vents and hundreds of Mini-Vents are going to be installed. Interstate VIPs were invited to visit this project. Studor Australia would particularly like to thank Craig Ford and Luke Emmins of BP Plumbing for the generous contribution of their time to facilitate the visit.

February 2008, Melbourne – Australia: The new Hilton Hotel currently under construction in Melbourne will be utilizing the Studor System. This 19-floor five-star project being built as part of the new Melbourne Convention Centre, an addition to the Melbourne Exhibition Center, will use 32 STUDOR P.A.P.A.™ throughout along with a yet to be confirmed number of STUDOR Mini-Vents and STUDOR Maxi-Vents depending on the final configuration of the building. The project is expected to be completed at the end of 2008 with the hotel welcoming its first guests early 2009.

February 2008: Studor Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike North S.A. as the new Studor agent for South Australia. Situated at 382 Richmond Road, Netley in Adelaide, right next to the airport, this company is ideally suited for pick-ups or delivery state-wide. Ted Bell, the State Manager is very keen regarding the possibilities with this new group of products. “This now gives us an additional product to discuss with the hydraulic consultants when we call on them!” he said. Paul Lanthois, the company Sales Representative is also excited, promising a new dynamic and regular approach to customers and projects in South Australia. With this available large warehousing capacity Studor can now have stock on hand to service Adelaide requirements the same day if needed. 25-29 November 2007, Dubai – UAE: STUDOR exhibited again at this most important and largest tradeshow in the Middle East. However, it was a different story this year compared to 2006, as now we were represented by the new company STUDOR MIDDLE EAST. This fact was noticed with great satisfaction by many visitors, as it underlines Studor’s dedication to that market. Studor Middle East offers full commercial and technical support locally and has a large warehouse facility. Furthermore, obviously it was greatly appreciated that the Studor System now has full approval for the region and that consultants can freely plan their buildings benefiting from all advantages the system offers.
Baris As (Area Manager Middle East), Steve White, (Technical Manager Studor) and Franz Arnold (CEO Studor Group) were supported by staff from the UAE distributor Thomsun, and received a lot of interesting visitors from the United Arab Emirates and the whole Middle East region – but also from Europe, Asia and Australia.

12-14 October 2007, Perth – Western Australia: STUDOR Australia exhibited in conjunction with their Western Australian agent (Higgins Agencies) at DesignBuild Perth, held in Western Australia’s capital city’s Convention and Exhibition Centre. Peter Higgins (General Manager, Higgins Agencies) and Marc Williams (National Sales & Training Manager, STUDOR Australia) were both on-hand throughout the show and offered their expertise to the interested visitors. Peter and Marc also took the opportunity to educate the local building industry of the latest changes to sanitary ventilation which took effect there on 1 July 2007. Western Australian plumbers and builders can now group stack and branch vent with AAVs, as well as utilizing the PAPA to eliminate relief vent piping. Of particular interest also was a STUDOR P.A.P.A. connected to an H.D.P.E. stack, demonstrating its suitability for use under the Environmentally Sustainable Design Principle, or "Green Star", Building Code. 19-21 September 2007, Brno - Czech Republic: The 33rd international symposium of CIB W062 was held at the Myslivna Hotel near Brno, the capital of South Morovia, Czech Republic, organized by the Brno University of Technology. CIB stands for International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction. The working group W062 researches the area of Water Supply and Drainage for Buildings. STUDOR has been involved with CIB since 1989.
43 presentations from 17 countries found a lot of interested listeners from the academic and industrial world. STUDOR's Technical Manager, Steve White, gave his first presentation to this forum, titled "Active Air Pressure Suppression of Drainage Systems – from Research to the Market Place". July 2007, Sydney - Australia: STUDOR Australia is climbing new heights. During the traditional winter meeting (July obviously being the cold season in the Southern hemisphere), the team of STUDOR Australia mixed hard work with a bit of fun. Climbing to new heights, they mounted the Sydney Harbour Bridge by night with wind speeds of 90km per hour, which made the whole experience even more exciting. 3-6 June, 2007, Sydney - Australia: STUDOR Australia, represented by Marc Williams (National Sales & Training Manager), Grant Weymouth (NSW & ACT Area Manager) and John Winter (QLD Area Manager), exhibited at Designbuild Australasia 2007 held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre. This year’s theme was sustainable building practices. This was supported by STUDOR demonstrating the compatibility of the STUDOR System (STUDOR AAVs with the STUDOR P.A.P.A.) connected to an HDPE stack system, as well as a video display showing the STUDOR products connected to pipe systems of various materials.
The exhibition was also the launch of the Australian version of STUDORCAD, the innovative design tool add-on program for AutoCAD software. It includes STUDOR’s complete range, as well as those products only available on the Australian market, and may be downloaded by registering at www.studor.net/studorcad.asp.

29 May 2007, Dubai – UAE: An exciting new era has begun for STUDOR with the launch of STUDOR Middle East, which is based in Jebel Ali – a company established to be dedicated to educating and developing the market for the STUDOR products throughout the Middle East in close cooperation with their local distributors. The launch of STUDOR Middle East was made first to a press conference of daily newspapers, magazines, trade press and TV stations. This was followed by a highly successful seminar attended by more than 180 participants, comprising representatives of the Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Municipality, top consultants and contractors, representatives of Heriot-Watt Dubai campus etc.
Franz Arnold (CEO STUDOR Group) and Steven White (STUDOR Technical Manager) flew into the UAE from Europe especially for these events and were very pleased also to welcome Professor Swaffield (from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland) to Dubai as honorary speaker to the seminar. Introductions were made by Franz Arnold and Mr. Saji (General Manager of Thomsun), followed by a presentation by Steven White explaining in detail the STUDOR System and the background behind STUDOR. Professor Swaffield then presented the results of his team's many years of research into transient pressures within the drainage system, their negative effects and how to avoid them – the key message being that the only system to work properly in high rise buildings is that comprising of P.A.P.A.s (Positive Air Pressure Attenuators) and AAVs (Air Admittance Valves), i.e. the STUDOR System. The highly successful event culminated in a lavish Indian/Arab buffet and drinks for all participants.

 21 April, 2007: STUDOR is pleased to congratulate Helen Lawson (Commercial Manager, STUDOR Limited) on her graduation today with The Open University (OU). Whilst also fully employed throughout, she started open learning with the OU in 1998, 2 years before she joined STUDOR, and completed her last course last November 2006. During the course of her studies she was awarded a Diploma in Information Technology in 2000 and in a Diploma in Computing in 2002. Helen found it a great challenge to balance a demanding job and studying towards her degree, as well as social interests and relaxation time. However, the hard work paid off and today she was very proud to be awarded a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information Technology and Computing.

March 2007: Bell City: Preston, Victoria Australia. After a period of controversy and redesign, the 'Bell City' Project is finally underway. Originally built in the 1950’s as a hospital for the northern suburbs of Melbourne, it was closed and has sat vacant since the late 1990’s. Following on from their success developing medium level accommodation for tourists and students, Australian Pacific Hotels & Resorts have decided to add extra space and redevelop this property into a combination of student and serviced apartments on the upper floors and business/retail space on the ground floor. Hydraulically designed by Connor, Pincus & Saunders and contracted by B.P.Plumbing, this project will utilise the STUDOR system comprising, 59 P.A.P.A.s, 59 Maxi-Vents and around 300 Mini-Vents. The project is expected to be completed April 2008.

Aided Design (CAD) to optimize the design process. Within the construction

STUDOR continues to expand with the official launch in Panamá City.
The young and dedicated team of D & D Distributors organised an
event at the Camara Panameña de la Construccion in Panamá City,
inviting a range of important consultants, engineers, plumbers, architects
and other dignitaries of the industry.
Daniel Hanna and Daniel Maduro are heading D & D Distributors and
will catch a slice of the booming construction market in Panama with
dozens of skyscrapers on the map (up to 104 floors!), new hotels, resorts,
sport facilities, museums, etc.
A future expansion into the neighbour markets is also part of the strategy.

18-20 September, 2006 – Taipei, Taiwan: The 32nd CIB congress of the section W062 (Water Supply and Drainage Research) was superbly organized by the team of Prof. Cheng of NTUST (National Taiwan University of Science and Technology). Researchers from universities of over 20 countries presented their latest findings in 36 papers over 2 days. The third day was dedicated to “technical visits” of interesting buildings in and around Taipei, which of course included the world’s tallest building “Taipei 101”. Most interesting also was to see the testing tower of the Department of Architecture of NTUST.
The Taiwan distributor of took the opportunity to have an exhibition booth at the site of the meetings, which created a lot of interest.

June 2006 – Perth, West Australia: ’s national campaign of tradeshows reached West Australia (W.A.), exhibiting at the Burswood Dome in Perth from 9-11 June. Australia was joined by their W.A. agent, Higgins Agencies, who also took the opportunity to display some of the other products they represent. Following the completion of the process to bring the W.A. Plumbing Code in line with the rest of Australia, ’s main aim of the tradeshow was to inform W.A. plumbers of the possibilities available to them through the use of AAVs. This education process was successfully achieved through informative displays and a continuously running audio/visual presentation.

May 2006 – Adelaide, South Australia: continued its national campaign of tradeshows by exhibiting at the National Tradesman’s Expo, which ran 19-21 May. The booth was manned by Marc Williams from Melbourne and Steve Giddio from Sydney. Attendance was up on previous years and considerable interest was shown in the new Trap-Vent as well as the P.A.P.A., which is an integral part of the System – a complete venting system.

May 2006 – Melbourne, Australia: continues its express run of tradeshows by exhibiting at Designbuild, which ran from 28-31 May. Designbuild incorporates the National Plumbing Show, as well as other design and construction exhibitions. The stand was manned by Marc Williams from Melbourne and Steve Giddio from Sydney. Steve and Marc were impressed by the mix of people who attended the show, some travelling from as far away as Cambodia and Papua New Guinea. Many had travelled interstate and opportunities were taken to renew relationships and showcase the latest inclusions to 's product range - the Trap-Vent, the Maxi-Filtra and the P.A.P.A. Look out for the stand at next year's Designbuild in Sydney as well as an Australian first - the new Designbuild in Perth.

12 April 2006: On behalf of the whole international team, I would like to express our very deep sadness at the peaceful passing of Nelson Palmer following a period of ill health. Nelson (director of Australia and proprietor of Plumbing Consultancy Services, trading as New Zealand) has been a greatly valued member of the team for many many years and was instrumental in the establishment and continual development of 's operations in Oceania. Through our dealings I also personally became good friends with Nelson and his wife Nancy. In Nelson's passing not only have I lost a highly regarded colleague, but also a dear friend and I feel a great loss. My deepest condolences, and those of the whole international team, are extended to Nancy and all of the family at this difficult time.
I am informed that the funeral will take place at 1100 hours on Saturday 15 April 2006 at Dempsey & Forrest, 208 Guyton Street, Wanganui, New Zealand.

April 2006 –Brisbane, Queensland, Australia: Australia began its national tradeshow campaign this month by exhibiting at the National Tradesman’s Expo. Very well supported by radio, TV and print advertising, the show went over three days at the RNA Showgrounds and was well attended throughout. Australia displayed all its current range, as well as launching its latest Watermarked product the Trap-Vent - a stylish architectural trap with integral air admittance valve. Co-exhibiting with was its Queensland agent, Moody & Winter, who also displayed the rest of their range of plumbing products via their unique rolling working display. The opportunity was also taken to introduce John Winter ( Australia’s new Queensland Area Manager) to the visiting plumbers.

March 2006 –Queensland, Australia: Australia’s Queensland distributor, Moody & Winter Sales, reaches a milestone this year with their 50th anniversary. A rarity these days is in the fact that the company is generational and run by the sons of the original partners who have continued to build and expand the company to what it is today - a thriving active business at Sumner Park in Brisbane. The company has many premium agencies and their large warehouse is filled with stock holding that is distributed nationally. They have both an internal and external sales force that is constantly travelling and servicing their clients across the huge Queensland state. February 2006, The latest amendment to the Australian National Plumbing Standards was published at the end of 2005, which allows the installation of the STUDOR P.A.P.A. throughout Australia. Plumbing designers and contractors have been quick to utilize the benefits of this unique product. The Chevron project in Melbourne, Victoria is a major refurbishment of an existing hotel/nightclub into apartments, as well as the construction of a cluster of small to mid-level apartment blocks next door with floor-plans that vary between levels. While this is an exciting concept architecturally, it significantly complicates plumbing design, requiring multiple changes of direction to the vertical stack pipes and consequently the parallel relief vent pipes. Using almost 60 STUDOR P.A.P.A.s and hundreds of STUDOR Premi-Aire Air Admittance Valves, the project’s complexity has been reduced to that of simply the installation of the pipes to transport the waste, and not the pipes to vent it – one of the great benefits of installing the STUDOR System!.

February 2006, Another project utilizing the recent changes to the Australian Plumbing Standards is the aged care centre in stage 1 of a major retirement village being built in the suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. This 120 bed hostel has en-suite facilities throughout as well as commercial-style kitchen and laundries. The plumbing designer, Kosta Gracievski of Caddnet Corporation, was determined to have a cutting edge project that used the latest in plumbing design. The architect also preferred a lack roof penetrations. The solution was the installation of 22 no. STUDOR P.A.P.A. units, together with STUDOR Mini-Vents and Maxi-Vents throughout the project. This is the first of three such buildings planned for this site, as well as multiple single level dwellings for independent living.

October 2005, the STUDOR Maxi-Filtra was installed to solve a sewer odour problem in a new cocktail lounge situated 300 metres above the ground in Sydney Australia’sCentrepoint Tower. The novelty of this installation is that “Bar 360°” spins! The plumbing was tricky, with the waste material for the Tower stored in tanks during the day, but then drained at the end of the day. Successful filtering of the sewer tanks during the operation of the bar was essential, with the solution being the installation of the STUDOR Maxi-Filtra - an active charcoal filter that filters sewer gasses while still allowing the free flow of air within the sanitary plumbing system. The STUDOR solution, using the Maxi-Filtra, solved the problem because no other product on the market came close to meeting the project’s venting requirement. Sture Ericson (founder of STUDOR) celebrates his 70th birthday today.
Friends were invited to the beautiful Belgian residence of Doris and Sture
Ericson on Sunday afternoon for a celebratory event.
This started with a golf tournament on the STUDOR golf
course with cocktails presented at the end of the tournament on
the terrace. A wonderful dinner, desserts, beautiful music and, of course,
dancing rounded up the great party which ended in the early morning hours
of today, his birthday. Sture was touched by a wonderful presentation of
his wife Doris and was also very happy with the many presents he received.
Amongst them was a golf holiday with a visit the British Open 2006,
presented by Franz Arnold (CEO) on behalf of the STUDOR Group.
We all wish Sture a happy birthday and many returns in good health.

14-16 September 2005, Brussels/Belgium,
this year's CIB W062 meeting took place in Brussels.
Over 75 academics researching in the water supply and drainage
area participated and listened to most interesting presentations
during two days. Day 3 was dedicated to some technical visits
and finally ended with a nice tour through the beautiful town
of Brugge by horse tram. The symposium concluded with a dinner
hosted by STUDOR at the Damme Golf & Country Club. In his dinner
speech Sture Ericson surprised everybody with
the announcement that a STUDOR FOUNDATION has been set up.
Sture and Doris Ericson (founders of STUDOR) want to encourage
young talents to carry out special research projects and
to present the results later at CIB events. The details and
rules of this foundation will now be worked out and details
will be announced later.

NZS3500.2.2003. A test rig built to the specifications from Professor
John A. Swaffield’s Heriot-Watt study was used to demonstrate the
dynamics of air and water within a 40 metre waste system, as well as
demonstrating the STUDOR
P.A.P.A.’s operation.
Although not directly applicable to W.A. due to its adherence to the
1998 version of the national standards, the attending plumbers,
apprentices, hydraulic designers and local regulators all found the
information interesting.

August 2005,

entirely from plumbing materials. STUDOR

to the project – in a plumbing installation,
this active carbon filter is designed to eliminate bad odours produced

June 2005,
the new Maxi-Filtra has been installed at Glenferrie Private Hospital
(formerly Swinburne University Hospital) in Hawthorn, Melbourne, Australia.
The hospital was experiencing problems with sewer gasses from existing nearby
open roof vents being sucked into the air-conditioning intakes of a ward and 2
operating theatres. Fortunately the hospital’s plumber was aware of the
Maxi-Filtra from a previous unrelated requirement and suggested the installation.
Several units were installed and the problem reduced dramatically.

June 2005,
over 130 teachers from TAFE (Technical and Further education) Colleges
around Australia and New Zealand attended the
PSCIA (Plumbing Trade Teachers) Conference. STUDOR was one of only a
few industry manufacturers invited to present at the conference and
was represented by two of STUDOR Australia’s Area Managers – Marc Williams
(Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia) and David Griffiths
(New South Wales and ACT). Marc outlined STUDOR’s history and close
involvement with the TAFE colleges throughout Australia, highlighting
the importance of the TAFE colleges for the plumbing industry. He
provided a brief overview of the STUDOR products and the P.A.P.A. –
together comprising the complete STUDOR System. He also highlighted
the availability of purpose-written STUDOR training modules to help
teach apprentices correct application and installation of Air
Admittance Valves. Both Marc and David were greatly overwhelmed with
the response from the event and will be attending the 50th Anniversary
Conference next year.

June 2005, STUDOR Maxi-Vents and Mini-Vents have been installed in the unique Victorian Government Marine and Freshwater Institute at Queenscliff, Victoria on the southern coast of Australia. Utilizing the thermal properties of the earth, the building is semi-buried under 300mm of topsoil and grasses. It is built on a former waste site and is the first building to receive a six-star green rating. Recycling its waste water through sand filters and 2 treatment ponds, it uses rainwater to irrigate the roof grasses. Upon completion, the building will be used to educate on the marine environment..

June 2005, the new Risdon Prison Complex in Tasmania, Australia’s southernmost state, is underway. Recently expanded, this project is now worth $A100,000,000. It will include a 219 bed men’s prison, a 45 bed women’s prison and a 28 bed Secure Mental Health Unit (SMHU), as well as detention centres at various security levels. This project, expected to take over 4 years to construct, is the biggest currently underway in this state. The first stage, a major refurbish of the existing men’s prison, was recently supplied with 20 STUDOR Premi-Aire 100s to be used for venting the 100mm stacks connecting the toilet facilities through the floors of the building. The use of the STUDOR vents eliminates the penetrations through what will be a massive roof area.

May 2005, Melbourne, Australia STUDOR
Australia hosted the third in the series of the
presentations of the Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, Scotland)
study of Plumbing System Dynamics in regards to ventilation. The
event, held next to the Australian Grand Prix track at Albert Park,
Melbourne, was presented by Marc Williams (STUDOR
Area Manager,
Victoria, S.A. and Tasmania). He also introduced the latest products
developed by STUDOR.
The event was well attended by some of the
leading hydraulic consultants and plumbing contractors in the state,
and was supported by the Master Plumbers and Mechanical Services
Association of Australia. The final presentations in the series will
take place in Tasmania and West Australia.

April 29, 2005, STUDOR organized a very successful breakfast seminar at TAFE Gore Hill, Sydney, Australia.
STUDOR Australia Pty Ltd was represented with their full sales team:
David Griffiths (NSW); Marc Williams (VIC, TAS, SA); Peter Higgins (WA) and David Moody (QLD). Nelson Palmer (STUDOR New Zealand) and Michael Mekhitarian (Director, STUDOR Australia Pty Ltd), as well as Franz Arnold (CEO STUDOR Group) complemented the team.
Using a huge test rig simulating the wet and dry stack of a 10 storey building, built by a large number of plumbing students, the effects of positive pressure can be simulated. David Griffiths explained, in a very impressive and convincing way, how STUDOR’s P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator) can solve problems caused by positive pressure surges. He proved both in practice by using the test rig, as well as in theory by showing the study carried out by Heriot-Watt university in Edinburgh (Scotland), that the best functioning system in the world is the one of STUDOR, i.e. a combination of Air Admittance Valves and P.A.P.A.
More than 85 specialists (hydraulic engineers, architects, designers, plumbing contractors, etc.) joined STUDOR at 7am (!!) for this breakfast session. STUDOR also took the opportunity to introduce the new products recently launched at ISH. Both the Trap-Vent and the Maxi-Filtra generated great interest.
TOP April 2005, STUDOR hosted the first in a series of presentations across Australia of the Heriot-Watt University ( Edinburgh, Scotland) study of Plumbing System Dynamics in regards to ventilation. Presented in Adelaide, South Australia, in conjunction with the local Plumbing Industry Association, the attendees included Hydraulic Engineers, Design Consultants and Commercial Plumbers as well as the local state regulators. In addition to the Heriot-Watt study, the evening covered topics from the recent World Plumbing Conference, briefed on the new STUDOR products released at ISH Frankfurt this year and the upcoming changes to the Australian/New Zealand standard AN/NZS3500.2.2003, which will incorporate the use of the STUDOR P.A.P.A. for the first time within a National Standard. Marc Williams (STUDOR Area Manager for South Australia and presenter of the evening) was happy with the turnout and questions raised from those present. The next presentation will be held in Sydney later in April, followed by other states throughout the year.

March 2005,The World Plumbing Council's 7th Conference took place
in beautiful Auckland at the spectacular Skycity complex in the city of sails.
The local organizers did a fantastic job in presenting an interesting conference
for approx. 600 delegates, spiked with social events that demonstrated New Zealand's
best local entertainment, including traditional dances of the Maori.
STUDOR was in a very prominent position as sponsor and exhibitor at the trade show,
but it did not stop there. Various STUDOR presentations were given and STUDOR's special
guest, Prof. John Swaffield from Heriot-Watt University (Scotland), was involved giving
his view of "active transient control" and feedback of the studies by his university
concerning the SARS outbreak in Hong Kong. In both situations STUDOR products can improve
the situation in an impressive way and this was demonstrated to the delegates from all over
the world.
A cocktail reception at the STUDOR stand for special invited guests rounded up a great
event. The next WPC Conference will take place in September 2008 in Calgary, Canada.
