NEW TERRAIN PARTNERSHIP PROVIDES UNIQUE SOLUTION TO DRAINAGE VENTILATION

May 2010

Polypipe Terrain has unveiled details of a new partnership across the Gulf Region and UK with Studor, the world’s leader in drainage ventilation solutions. The combination of Terrain’s expertise in drainage systems and the unique solution provided by Studor, brings a new approach to dealing with the challenges of providing drainage ventilation solutions.

The new Terrain Pleura Drainage Ventilation System has been created as the result of this new partnership, providing a ‘complete’ solution for designers and installers and ultimately benefitting the end client.

Launched recently to the Gulf market, the Terrain Pleura Drainage Ventilation System utilises innovative products to provide an alternative approach to traditional drainage ventilation for domestic, commercial, low-rise, high-rise and super-high rise applications. These include the Terrain P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator) and the Terrain Pleura Air Admittance Valve range, all of which have been developed using Studor technology to complement the Terrain drainage system.

The system equalises the pressure throughout the drainage system to provide increased protection for the traps by removing the risk of siphonage. Significant reductions in installed cost can be achieved through both a reduction in the requirement for pipework and the installation time when compared to a traditional vented system. Roof penetrations are largely eliminated also, resulting in improved building practices and building integrity.

“Modern high-rise and super-high rise buildings present their own unique challenges in terms of the ventilation of drainage systems,” explains Polypipe Gulf’s General Manager Robin Appleby. “The new Terrain Pleura Drainage Ventilation System is a scientifically proven solution to those challenges. It’s simple and effective. It provides greater freedom for system designers and can also be retrofitted to existing systems that experience ventilation-associated problems, very often noticed by the end clients in terms of bad smells or ‘gurgling’ traps.”

“This new partnership further enhances Terrain’s offering to the market, and supports the business strategy of providing new and improved solutions to the drainage market”

A new brochure on the Terrain Pleura System is now available from Polypipe Terrain. For more details call +971 (0)50 5512855 or +971 (0)50 6581138, or email international@polypipe.com

KEYMARK Accreditation for STUDOR Products

November 2003

STUDOR – the world market leader in the area of Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) - announced that on 12 November 2003 DIN CERTCO, Berlin, Germany certified that the AAVs for drainage systems of the types:

STUDOR Maxi-Vent, STUDOR KNITS II, OsmaVent 110
STUDOR Mini-Vent, STUDOR Mini-KNITS, OsmaVent 40

conform to DIN EN 12380:2003-03

and granted STUDOR the licence to use the marks:

KEYMARK & DIN Geprüft

The validity of the use of the CE Mark is thereby confirmed by DIN CERTCO.

The KEYMARK is a European quality mark and product certification scheme issued by the European Standard Organisation CEN and empowered by DIN CERTCO - the certification organisation of DIN, the German Institute for Standardisation. The KEYMARK may only be issued after a DIN Geprüft Mark has been issued. It proves that the STUDOR products fully comply with European Standard EN 12380:2003 through independent auditing by DIN CERTCO.

The DIN Geprüft Mark is the German national certification mark of DIN CERTCO, who issues it when a product is proven to fully comply with EN 12380:2003; through a DIN CERTCO approved laboratory for Initial Type Testing (ITT). Factory production control is inspected by DIN CERTCO, who also carries out full periodic surveillance.

The CE Mark applied to a product is self-certification by the manufacturer that the product fulfils the essential requirements of EN 12380:2003. In most cases, there is no requirement for independent validation of STUDOR certification. The KEYMARK certification, however, confirms that the STUDOR products listed above do indeed fulfil the full requirements of EN 12380:2003.

EN 12380:2003 details the requirements for the manufacturer, the test methods and the evaluation of conformity for AAVs to be used in drainage systems installed within buildings in accordance with European Standard EN 12056-2. It sets the performance requirements for AAVs and how the manufacturer should demonstrate compliance with the Standard. Contained within EN 12380:2003 is a table which classifies AAVs based on their performance – ranging from AI as the highest classification to BIII as the lowest classification.

As well as the DIN CERTCO Certificate, STUDOR was also recently awarded the new British Board of Agrément (BBA) Certificate No 89/2139 (second issue), which also includes the requirements of EN 12380:2003.

The BBA is an organisation partnered with the United Kingdom (UK) Government to provide authoritative and independent information on the performance of building products within the whole of the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland). The BBA is the UK member of the European Union of Agrément (UEAtc), representing the UK in the European Organisation for Technical Approvals, and is responsible for the issue of European Technical Approvals in the UK. The BBA Certificate provides data on durability, installation and compliance with UK Building Regulations. Assessment involves laboratory testing, site inspections and factory production control.

The revolutionary STUDOR P.A.P.A.™

31 October 2002

Fed up with having to design your drainage systems with open vent pipes? Worried that your design of the drainage system is going to suffer from positive and negative pressure problems?

STUDOR is pleased to announce the launch of its revolutionary P.A.P.A., the perfect compliment to their existing range of Air Admittance Valves (AAVs).

The STUDOR P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator) has taken several years to develop by Professor John Swaffield and Dr David Campbell of Heriot-Watt University (Scotland) in partnership with STUDOR.

This practical product is installed on the single stack to protect the traps' seals from positive pressure (backpressure/positive transients). When installed in conjunction with a STUDOR Maxi-Vent, the STUDOR P.A.P.A. becomes a positive and negative protection device. In this configuration the units can be placed throughout the stack to provide complete protection to the drainage system.

The STUDOR P.A.P.A. unit has been designed with practicality in mind. There are no health and safety issues, as the units are one-person portable. The units are not mechanical devices and are built to last.

The units can easily be retrofitted into a current system to solve existing problems, or to add extra protection to the system against the transients in the system, and thus protect the traps on the branches from the pressures that occur in the stack.

The only reason for the requirement of an open vent as part of a drainage system design is to relieve any positive pressure in the system when AAVs are being used to relieve the negative pressures in the system. The STUDOR P.A.P.A. is the final part of the solution to simplify drainage venting without the need to extend an open pipe vent to the atmosphere.

Using the complete "STUDOR System" a building's drainage system can be designed without roof penetrations. The STUDOR Mini-Vents will protect the fixtures on the branch of the system and the STUDOR P.A.P.A., together with a STUDOR Maxi-Vent, will protect the stack against positive and negative pressures. The combination of STUDOR AAVs and STUDOR P.A.P.A. provide a perfect balance in returning the drainage system back to atmospheric pressure without any traps being siphoned.

For further information on the STUDOR P.A.P.A. please contact STUDOR's Technical Manager, Steven White (steve@studor.net).
