19 August 2011, Sydney - Australia: Studor’ s 3rd Annual Golf Day
30 plumbers and hydraulic consultants teed off at the beautiful Oatlands Golf Club in Western Sydney on an overcast day with the heavens threatening to open up at any moment. During the BBQ breakfast there were patches of rain, which received a not-so-welcome groan from the field, but nonetheless everyone was determined to enjoy the day. The rain managed to hold off for most of the day, with only one period seeing a heavy downpour during the round.
Back warm and dry in the clubhouse, the banter centred around how lucky the golfers were that they didn’t get caught out in the torrential downpour that commenced just as they finished. Whilst they sat back and enjoyed a well deserved drink, they were entertained by the spectacle of two golfers trying to complete their round in torrential rain and driving wind, watching in bemusement as they tried to putt on a green with two inches of water running across it!
After a sumptuous lunch and a few more drinks, the talk turned from what could have been, and got down to the business end of the day, with the presentation of the prizes and the announcement of the winners of the “Ericson Trophy” for 2011. Studor would like to congratulate the following prize recipients for their outstanding efforts on a tough course in adverse conditions.

30 March – 2 April 2011, Padova - Italy: Studor’s partner for the Italian market, Bampi, exhibited at Termoidraulica Clima Ecoenergie. This was the third show this year in Italy, with Bampi also having participated at Klimahouse in Bolzano and Eco Casa in Reggio Emilia. Great attention was given, in particular, to the technical aspect of the product / solution shown, with the use of a dedicated “training room” – a concept to attract both engineers and plumbers with professionalism and bespoke messages, together with a personalised drink offered after a 10 minute video. The Studor product range was also shown in situ, via a 1-2-1 drainage installation panel, responding once more in a very practical way to the overall curiosity of the public. Yet again, Studor and Bampi together emphasise the utmost importance of the “education process” as the sure key element for success.

15-19 March 2011, Frankfurt - Germany: ISH is the world’s leading trade fair incorporating The Bathroom Experience, Building, Energy, Air-conditioning Technology and Renewable Energies. This year nearly 2,400 exhibitors were present, amongst them all market and technology leaders. Studor was represented by their German distributor Kessel AG, in the main Hall 4.0. Many German installers visited the booth, having the opportunity to see the benefits of the whole product range, which both combines high tech solutions with the best designs; highlighting the real market differentiator within the drainage ventilation solutions systems and well reflecting the Studor brand philosophy. Daniel Rath – Studor Technical Sales Director – also took the opportunity to meet many of Studor’s worldwide network players, at what has now become a regular annual visit by them to ISH. Despite the recession of the building industry in some key markets, the show registered a record presence during both Wednesday and Thursday key days. Throughout the show there were 204,000 trade visitors, with 35% of these from abroad. The next ISH in Frankfurt will be held from 12 to 16 March 2013.

1 March 2011, London – UK: Ecobuild, the world’s biggest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment opened its doors today for the 6th year. Now with more than 1,300 exhibitors, over 100 free seminars, more than 600 highly esteemed speakers from the renewable energy industry, many live demonstrations and numerous interactive attractions, Ecobuild is the UK’s largest construction event of any kind. Studor, co-exhibiting with Dyteqta at London’s ExCel, explained the environmental benefits of using the Studor System, including reduction of pipework, and reduced energy loss through roof penetrations. For both companies, this is a “world first”, proving how the synergy of recognised expertise can join forces and benefit from each other’s knowhow, leading the market with the latest and “front end” technology: Dyteqta, utilising innovative sonar technology, responsible for investigating and monitoring the effectiveness of buildings’ drainage networks and their integrity, whilst Studor products and system offer the preferred rectification solution.

21 February 2011, Edinburgh – Scotland, UK: This day marked the sudden passing of Professor John Swaffield, Professor Emeritus, FRSE, BSc, MPhil, PhD, CEng, MRAeS, FCIWEM, FCIBSE of Heriot-Watt University. John will be sorely missed by the whole international Studor team, as well as personally by the founders of Studor – Sture and Doris Ericson. A pioneer in the development of numerical simulation techniques and their application in the field of building drainage engineering, John was highly respected within the plumbing industry, and had a lifetime of achievements that include: authoring many academic books and journal papers; active participation within the CIB Working Commission W062 on Water Supply and Drainage for Buildings since 1975; his role as co-inventor of the P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator) with his good friend Dr. David Campbell; election as President of CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) in 2008/9; and leading the ‘Defective Trap Identification System’ project which developed into the business Dyteqta. He was a dedicated and committed researcher and teacher, as well as a valued friend. Studor’s deepest condolences are extended to John’s wife Jean and daughter Jo at this difficult time.
We are informed that the funeral will be held on Monday 7th March at 1400 hours in the Main Chapel at Mortonhall Crematorium, Edinburgh. In lieu of flowers, donations have been requested to be made to the WaterAid charity, which was close to John’s heart. 13 August 2010, Sydney - Australia: Studor Australia Golf Day 2010!
With the sun broaching the early morning sky, the general consensus was it was going to be another beautiful day for the annual golf day. After a delicious breakfast of bacon and egg rolls, fruit Danishes and freshly brewed coffee, 34 players consisting of hydraulic consultants and plumbers lined up to play 18 holes at Oatlands Golf Club. Described as “one of the best par 70 golf courses in Australia”, once again Oatlands didn’t disappoint, with greens that were slick and required a degree in geometry to read! Throughout the event it was common to hear shouts of success teamed with cries of despair. Eventually everyone finished, handed in their cards to the pro-shop and convened back at the clubhouse for drinks, and the usual post mortem of how the day had gone. A simple yet filling lunch of BBQ meats with salads and baked potatoes kept the raucous group quiet for a period, or at least long enough to work out who had won prizes on the day. With the sun slowly setting on what had been a fantastic, if not challenging, day the winning team from Building Services Engineers team were presented with the “Ericson Trophy”.

16 July 2010, Congress Centre Padova - Italy: Bampi, Studor’s Italian partner, started a dedicated educational seminar program for plumbers. The first event was held in the Congress Centre of Padova on Friday 16 July. More than 100 local plumbers attended the event, listening with great interest and attention to the presentations given. The topic of “noise produced in drainage systems” was considered particularly interesting as fundamental information regarding legal requirements, correct installation, the causes of noise, the best solutions and the plumber’s responsibility were given. The subject “drainage ventilation” was obviously an integral part of this presentation, as a correct water flow in drainage systems can only be done with the right ventilation and automatically makes the drainage the most silent – no gurgling and a smooth water flow with Studor’s Air Admittance Valves: a strong and well perceived message for the audience!

21 July 2010, Port Macquarie, NSW - Australia: The latest NSW Master Plumbers Association tradeshow in the north costal town of Port Macquarie, held at the Port Macquarie Panthers Club, saw in the region of 50 companies from all aspects of the construction/plumbing industry display their products. Grant Weymouth (National Support Manager and Area Sales Manager NSW/ACT) of Studor Australia was on hand to discuss the Studor products with approximately 100 plumbers who attended throughout the evening from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. It has been 3 years since the tradeshow was last held in Port Macquarie, so it was no surprise that the great number of local plumbers were also joined by delegates venturing from neighbouring townships both up and down the coast. Again, the P.A.P.A. drew curious stares, with comments like “that’s a mighty big AAV” being common, giving Grant the opening to explain its function and key benefits particularly in relation to multi-storey buildings. With this tradeshow being deemed one of the more successful regional events, Studor Australia is greatly looking forward to the next events in August at Wagga Wagga and Griffith “down south”.

2-6 June 2010, Hong Kong: In partnership with their Hong Kong distributor, Splendor, Studor exhibited at the biennial Asian Building Technologies 2010. Co-located with Asian Building Interiors, Asian Elenex and Asian Securitex, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition centre, Asian Building Technologies completed the perfect partnership of 4 related trade exhibitions which attracted exhibitors from across the globe. This 4-in-1 tradeshow offered the opportunity to display the Studor System (an innovative building drainage ventilation system) and build up new business relationships, as well as fostering established ones. The usual interested core group of professional people and practitioners from the building services engineering this year were joined with a new group from building management, who are the front line people facing most daily issues of building drainage problems.

13-17 April, Nuremburg – Germany: Kessel, Studor’s German Partner, continued their tradeshow presence in Germany by exhibiting at the biennial IFH/Intherm – the leading HVAC trade fair in southern Germany, which brings together craft trades people, dealers, engineers, design planners and architects. Only last month, Kessel also exhibited at the 23rd SHK tradeshow in Essen, where over 500 exhibitors received in excess of 50,000 visitors. The whole Studor product range was presented at both shows, with particular focus on the P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator), with its unique application in attenuating positive pressure transients in drainage pipes systems. In addition to their tradeshow presence throughout 2010, Kessel has established a dedicated seminar calendar, which will again reinforce Studor’s overall philosophy and mission as the unique innovative player in this very specialized field with an active educational programme. The German seminar program has 4 remaining dates in 2010 in different cities. 23-27 March 2010, Milan – Italy: MCE (Mostra Convegno Expocomfort) was again a great success, with innovation, comfort, energy efficiency and saving as the main issues of the MCE four thematic areas of heat, cold, water and energy. The main attraction of Studor’s tradeshow activity this year was found on the Bampi booth, where more than 2000 visitors – all types of professionals, with the majority being installers – registered their presence and received a Studor product gift. The “Bampi Show”, an established and recognized event in the market, was again an incontestable success. This year the core message of the show was based on the synergy between “the medicine and the plumbing terminology”, which worked fantastically well. During each session, plumbers taken from the pool of visiting spectators had the opportunity to test the real and unique features of a Studor Air Admittance Valve: a different but very effective way to promote the brand! The overall success of the show gave the whole team a real pleasure in even just talking with enthusiasm about Studor.
