May 2003, the first Apartment buildings to be built in Melbourne, Australia with AAVs are slowly nearing completion. Both “Southpoint” and “Sentinal” Towers in South Melbourne were at that critical stage of construction where the plumbing contractor could go the traditional route or use AAVs for his group venting applications. The amendment to the Australian Standard AN/NZS 3500.2.2 had just been published, so Jared Kaplan of Contrax Plumbing contacted Marc Williams ( Area Manager for Victoria) for his input. The plans were viewed and it was agreed that both projects were suitable for the incorporation of products. The builder, L.U. Simon, was happy to have fewer holes in the building and so, after consultation with the Hydraulic Engineer, it was agreed to install Mini-Vents for both single and group venting applications. Now, interestingly, the last project to be quoted will be the first one finished!

With the opportunity of modernizing the system, it was decided to remove all the extra pipework and use AAVs for the ventilation requirements instead. The building is being totally gutted and brought up to 21st Century standards. Naturally, AAVs were the first choice!
