December, 2006: STUDOR is very proud to announce that more than 3,000 STUDOR Mini-Vent and Maxi-Vent Air Admittance Valves have been installed throughout the newly opened New Bangkok International (Suvarnabhumi - meaning 'Golden Land') Airport in Thailand. One of the largest and most modern international airports, it features the largest terminal buildings and the tallest control tower in the world. Opened in September 2006 by His Majesty King Bumibol Adelyadej, who also celebrates his 60th anniversary as king this year, it is decorated throughout in his honour. STUDOR was a clear choice for such prestigious project of this magnitude; with not only cost saving being a major consideration, but also ensuring reliable functionality to cope with the demands of as many of 76 flights per hour on the two simultaneously operating runways.

28 October, 2006 – Dubai, U.A.E: STUDOR exhibits the first time at the largest and most essential annual show for the building and construction industries in the Middle East. The BIG 5 features 3,000 companies from 60 countries. Sheik Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, inaugurated and visited the exhibition. A brand new stand, made to measure for this event, shows the function of the Combi-Siphon family in a very practical way. The show is extremely well visited from people all over the region and this gives STUDOR the right forum to promote the products further in these booming markets. The focus in the Middle East is on the STUDOR System, a unique combination of Air Admittance Valves and the STUDOR exclusive P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator), which handles negative and positive transients in the drainage system. This system is ideal for the high rise and super high rise buildings which are being constructed in this region. The show continues until 1 November, 2006 and STUDOR can be found in the UK section at stand 2E70.

October, 2006 – Tampa, Florida, USA: STUDOR has been a dedicated member of ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers) for many years. The national meetings take place every two years, with the 20th edition being held at the Convention Center of Tampa. Delegates from all over the USA are listening to the interesting presentations, one of them about "drainage venting in high rise buildings", given by Fabio Castellani of STUDOR.

In addition to the technical program there is an engineered plumbing exposition with more than 300 manufacturers, featuring everything from Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) to pipes, pumps, etc. This allows the engineers to obtain information about new products first hand. STUDOR exhibited their products. In particular, the Chem-Vent (see picture below) received a lot of attention, along with the STUDOR System; which incorporates AAVs and the P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator), allowing the construction of drainage networks in high rise buildings without the need for costly extensive vent pipe systems and eliminating most roof penetrations.

The next national ASPE convention will take place at the Convention Center in Long Beach, California, US from 27 to 28 October 2008. Needless to say, STUDOR is already signed up for the event!

18-20 September, 2006 – Taipei, Taiwan: The 32nd CIB congress of the section W062 (Water Supply and Drainage Research) was superbly organized by the team of Prof. Cheng of NTUST (National Taiwan University of Science and Technology). Researchers from universities of over 20 countries presented their latest findings in 36 papers over 2 days. The third day was dedicated to “technical visits” of interesting buildings in and around Taipei, which of course included the world’s tallest building “Taipei 101”. Most interesting also was to see the testing tower of the Department of Architecture of NTUST.

The Taiwan distributor of STUDOR took the opportunity to have an exhibition booth at the site of the meetings, which created a lot of interest.

STUDOR has been involved with CIB for many years, supporting their activities and participating at the events.

The 33rd CIB congress will be held in September 2007 in Brno, Czech Republic.

7 June, 2006– Hong Kong: Splendor Water Fittings Limited, STUDOR's distributor for Hong Kong, exhibits at the Asian Building Technologies 2006, which is held 7-9 June at the famous Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. The stand shows the latest technology, introducing the "STUDOR System" - a drainage network equipped with Air Admittance Valves and with STUDOR's new device, the Positive Air Pressure Attenuator (P.A.P.A.). With this system no (unless local code requires them) or only a very few exits to the atmosphere are necessary. Needless to say, this is very important in a territory which was hit hard by SARS a few years ago. The World Health Organization (WHO) proved in their report investigating the outbreak in Amoy Gardens Hong Kong, that SARS was transported through the drainage system (dry floor traps) into living spaces and from there via air condition units into other spaces. The "STUDOR System" helps to protect trap seals.

12 April 2006: On behalf of the whole international STUDOR team, I would like to express our very deep sadness at the peaceful passing of Nelson Palmer following a period of ill health. Nelson (director of STUDOR Australia and proprietor of Plumbing Consultancy Services, trading as STUDOR New Zealand) has been a greatly valued  member of the team for many many years and was instrumental in the establishment and continual development of STUDOR's operations in Oceania. Through our dealings I also personally became good friends with Nelson and his wife Nancy. In Nelson's passing not only have I  lost a highly regarded colleague, but also a dear friend and I feel  a great loss. My deepest condolences, and those of the whole  international STUDOR team, are extended to Nancy and all of the  family at this difficult time.

March 2006 –Queensland, Australia: STUDOR Australia’s Queensland distributor, Moody & Winter Sales, reaches a milestone this year with their 50th anniversary. A rarity these days is in the fact that the company is generational and run by the sons of the original partners who have continued to build and expand the company to what it is today - a thriving active business at Sumner Park in Brisbane. The company has many premium agencies and their large warehouse is filled with stock holding that is distributed nationally. They have both an internal and external sales force that is constantly travelling and servicing their clients across the huge Queensland state. On their recent visit to Brisbane to confirm John Winter as STUDOR's new Queensland Area Manager, Franz Arnold (CEO STUDOR Group) and Marc Williams (National Sales Manager) took the opportunity to take the two principles out to dinner. February 2006, The latest amendment to the Australian National Plumbing Standards was published at the end of 2005, which allows the installation of the STUDOR P.A.P.A. throughout Australia. Plumbing designers and contractors have been quick to utilize the benefits of this unique product. The Chevron project in Melbourne, Victoria is a major refurbishment of an existing hotel/nightclub into apartments, as well as the construction of a cluster of small to mid-level apartment blocks next door with floor-plans that vary between levels. While this is an exciting concept architecturally, it significantly complicates plumbing design, requiring multiple changes of direction to the vertical stack pipes and consequently the parallel relief vent pipes. Using almost 60 STUDOR P.A.P.A.s and hundreds of STUDOR Premi-Aire Air Admittance Valves, the project’s complexity has been reduced to that of simply the installation of the pipes to transport the waste, and not the pipes to vent it – one of the great benefits of installing the STUDOR System!.

TOP

February 2006, Another project utilizing the recent changes to the Australian Plumbing Standards is the aged care centre in stage 1 of a major retirement village being built in the suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. This 120 bed hostel has en-suite facilities throughout as well as commercial-style kitchen and laundries. The plumbing designer, Kosta Gracievski of Caddnet Corporation, was determined to have a cutting edge project that used the latest in plumbing design. The architect also preferred a lack roof penetrations. The solution was the installation of 22 no. STUDOR P.A.P.A. units, together with STUDOR Mini-Vents and Maxi-Vents throughout the project. This is the first of three such buildings planned for this site, as well as multiple single level dwellings for independent living.
