STUDOR ELIMINATES PUBLIC HEALTH RISK IN HONG KONG HIGH RISE

The Studor P.A.P.A. and Studor Maxi-Vent AAVs have been retrofitted throughout two high rise blocks, each of forty-one floors, on the Pak Tin public housing estate in Hong Kong. They were used to rectify a major water seal depletion that was causing nasty smells and virus emission into some of the 1025 apartments via the buildings’ drainage systems.

Background

Splendor Water Fittings was called in by the Hong Kong Housing Department when the existing drainage building systems for the two apartment blocks started to cause problems.

An immense positive and negative transient was causing waste water to be sprayed up to almost two metres in height. This was also resulting in unpleasant odours throughout the two buildings, and a concern by the Hong Kong Housing Department that it might carry viruses or other unhealthy bacteria that would risk the health of its residents.

Studor Solution

Knowing that Studor products had been successfully utilised in similar situations, where air balancing was required in high rise buildings, Splendor immediately specified their use to solve this problem.

The Studor P.A.P.A. (Positive Air Pressure Attenuator) is a revolutionary ‘world-first’ system which was developed to resolve the problems of positive pressures (transients / back-pressure) specifically within the drainage systems of high rise developments. It complements the range of Studor Air Admittance Valves (AAVs), such as the Maxi-Vent, providing a complete venting solution for any multi-storey building.

The Studor Maxi-vent is an advanced AAV that protects the trap seals in the drainage system by allowing the intake of air, so a soil pipe can maintain the right level of pressure within the drainage system.

Result

Splendor installed 63 Studor P.A.P.A.s and 96 Maxi-Vent AAVs, ensuring that the living environment on the Pak Tin estate was safe, hygienic and pleasant for the Hong Kong Housing Department residents.
